Sun Safety Ft. Lauderdale Fort Lauderdale is a tourism hot-spot year round because of the ideal weather conditions. You can be out on the beach and in the water all day long doing activities such as kayaking, paddle boarding, jet skiing, and more! That beautiful weather means a lot of sun that can cause life-long skin damage if you aren’t using protection. We aren’t here to tell you to stay inside all day. What a shame that would be! With proper skin protection, you can enjoy an entire day out on the beach without worries.

Skin Protection 101

According to the American Cancer Society, the best ways to protect yourself in the sun are by wearing the following: a shirt, sunscreen, hat, and sunglasses. Obviously staying in the shade with an umbrella would be ideal, but if you’re out on a jet ski from American Watersports, an umbrella won’t be an option. Put on some layers and enjoy your day in the sun!

Sunscreen Choices

It’s important to know that sunscreen is a filter to protect your skin from UV rays, but it does not block all UV rays. This makes it important to still wear other layers of protection. When choosing the SPF level of sunscreen to use, a higher SPF means more UVB protection. No sunscreen will protect you 100%, but the higher the SPF the better off you’ll be. You’ll also want to reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours to maintain proper protection. If you’re swimming or wiping off sweat, you’ll need to reapply sunscreen more often to stay safe.

Fun in the Sun

American Watersports can provide everything you need for a great day at the beach, but protecting yourself from tomorrow’s sunburn is in your hands. Be smart about the sun protection you bring along for your jet ski or SUP tour, since you’ll be in direct sunlight for a long period of time.
