For many years, sailors depended on beacons of light from lighthouses along the shore for their very survival. Although lighthouses are used less frequently today due to GPS and other technology devices, they are still very much an important part of our country’s history. Not only do they still serve tangible purposes like direction and distance markers but they also have sentimental value for those residing near large bodies of water. Lucky for you a great place to tour some of the most picturesque lighthouses in the country is right here in Florida.

Famous Florida Lighthouses

  • The Ponce Inlet Lighthouse: 12 miles south of Daytona Beach is home to the tallest lighthouse in Florida, the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse.  It is made of red brick and has a distinct black top at the top. Historical tours of this lighthouse and the grounds are available all year round.
