Stand Up Paddle Board Rental

Great for Beginners

At first glance, paddle boarding looks hard. Maintaining your balance while standing on a board and paddling around on the ocean sounds difficult. However, it is actually quite easy! Paddle boards are long, wide, and thick, which makes them very stable and difficult to capsize. Most of our clients are paddling like pros in a matter of minutes!

Tips for Getting Started

Getting started on an SUP is easier than you think. When you rent an SUP from American Watersports, we will provide all of the equipment you need for a fun and safe time out on the water. Additionally, our staff will provide you with a crash course on paddle boarding to help you get started. The basics of paddle boarding are as follows:

Standing Up

Push the board out into the water until the fins are no longer touching the bottom. Then, hold the board by the sides and mount the board in a kneeling position just behind the center of the board. Keep your hands on the edges of the board to keep it stable, slowly get your feet under you, and carefully stand up while keeping your knees bent. Be sure to stay centered over the board as you rise.

Paddling

Once upright, keep your feet parallel, hip-width apart, and centered between the edges of the board. Focus on taking long, sweeping strokes as you paddle. Also, be sure to hold the paddle so the blade angles toward the nose of the board. As you paddle, keep your opposite hand on top of the T-grip (i.e., left hand on top if paddling on the right side of the board).
